Monday's workout 9/29/2008

Went for a run this evening. Was supposed to have done it yesterday, time just slipped away. The run felt awesome, got in some much needed sleep the last couple of days, it's amazing what that stuff will do for you. Everything about the run this evening was so perfect. I felt strong, my stride was totally different. I felt like I could run forever, a runner's high it was. By the grace and guidance of god I hope that feeling is with me in Portland. "Boston or bust". By the way me and dave have the same favorite saying by Steve Prefontaine. "To give less than your best is to sacrifice the gift", followed closely by "Cotton is a tool of the devil". I just want to thank our three awesome coaches for all their hard work and dedication that they put towards our team. Could not have done it without their guidance, again thank you so much.

Coming in to this race my main objective was to beat my 5k pr of 20:40. I was feeling pretty good. My first mile was way to fast, but stayed in contact with the other runners until about mile 2. I slowly but surely was running out of gas. I am dead certain that if I would have started out slower I would have beaten my pr of 20:40. 5ks are all guts no glory. I am really starting to grow quite fond of them. They teach you so much about your body and how far you can push it. I love the saying by Steve Prefontaine "It is more than just a race". Anyway I finished with a 20:55. Can't scrutinize myself to much, just learn from it.
